First Contact

First Contact is a tuned and built electronic instrument-environment engineered by Shemona Goldman and performed as a duo with cellist and composer Aliya Ultan, Composition PhD candidate at UVA. This researched based performance seeks to test the limits of improvisation and the subversion of the performer’s relationships to their classical instruments and training within a fragile sonic ecosystem on the brink of technological overload.
